During my freshman year of University I gained about 20 pounds in the first four months. I’m sure it had to do with living in a new city, being at a new university, and dealing with all the stress that comes with living without parents for the first time. I also didn’t have a proper sleeping schedule. I was going to bed at 4am almost every night because of the heavy work load. Eventually I saw what my unstable uni lifestyle was doing to my body and it hit me that freshman fifteen is real.
I had to end up buying new clothes, and gave most of my old ones away because I thought I wasn’t going to be able to loose all the weight I gained. However, by the end of freshman year I managed to loose all the weight after developing proper living habits. After the weight lose, trying to find clothes in my closet that would fit me was challenging. I realized that there are cons to weight loss.
Here’s a few reasons why loosing weight sucks:
1. Nothing in your closet fits, especially your jeans: Jeans are one of those items that don’t hug your body properly if you fluctuate in weight. Tops, sweats, leggings, everything just doesn’t fit right.
What I felt like realizing my relationships with all of my beautiful jeans that once fit me was over.
2. Most of the clothes that did fit you before the weight gain, is probably donated or given to family: When I gained weight during my first year at University, I gave most of my old clothes away. I sent almost three garbage bags full of clothes that I thought I was never going to wear again to the Salvation Army. After my weight loss I wished I had kept some because I needed my old clothes again. I was glad I was able to clean out my closet but now nothing I own fits.
3. Spending the money buying a whole new wardrobe:
I really dislike spending money on clothes especially when I have a whole closet full of clothes that once fit me. Some of the clothes in my closet were even unworn but couldn’t fit.
This meme is a little dramatic but it’s pretty heart breaking having to go out and purchase all new clothes when you have perfectly good ones in your closet.
4. Not knowing what size you are: I love online shopping and being able to shop in the comfort of your own home. However, when you loose weight you no longer know what size you are. This forces you to go in stores and try on multiple sizes until you figure out your new size.
Before I end this post, I just wanted to say there’s nothing wrong with loosing or gaining weight. The most important thing is that you’re happy with who you are. I wanted to write this post to promote body positivity and to see that both loosing and gaining weight comes with it’s pros and cons.
Thank you all for all the support. It truly means a lot to me.
