Wednesday Wisdom: Straws are For Suckers!

Straws Are For Suckers

Skip the straw!

Single use straws are made from plastic which never breaks down and the average person uses 580 straws per year within their lifetime.

As time progresses, plastic may separate into smaller pieces but never completely break down which causes many problems for marine wild life.

Plastic straws also can contain BPA which can lead to a number of disorders such as diabetes and heart disease.

Here are Some Ways to Quit Plastic Straws:

  1. Tumblers

Tumblers are a great way to save plastic because they’re reusable!

They’re also easy to find in places such as Starbucks, Walmart, Amazon, and Walgreens.

2. Stainless Steel Straws

Stainless steel straws are reusable and do not contain chemicals that interact with the product you are consuming.

These straws are also easy to clean and dishwasher safe!

Savvy Straws are a great way to save the environment as well and come with their very own cleaning brush to ensure that it’s squeky clean.

This brush is also great for cleaning sport bottles and sippy cups as well!

3. Ice Straws

You can make your own straws in the freezer and they will just melt away after you’re done using them.

4. Skip The Straw:

Say no!

If you don’t have your reusable straw with you, or you just don’t have one no worries. Just take the lid off and slurp away!

There’s always an option if you don’t want to use a straw!

5. Silicone Straws:

These straws are non-toxic, and a healthy alternative rather than plastic straws.

The best part of these straws is that they’re easy to store! You can just toss them in your bag when you’re done using them!

Wednesday Wisdom: Change Your Routine

Life is either

Changing the routine you’re used to can be challenging.  It’s something that’s so comfortable and homy why would you want to change it?

Sometimes you need a change from your routine. Maybe a change is the very thing you need, but you wouldn’t know until you take that break.

Now you’re probably thinking well how do I change my routine? Anything you do differently than you normally would that’s a change.

Try doing one thing the complete opposite that you would do something. If you’re used to working from home, try going to your local Starbucks and work from there for the day.  Order some coffee, grab a seat and get to work.

I find that the atmosphere at Starbucks inspires me to write. So today, I decided instead of writing at home why not come to Starbucks instead. Of course, I had to order one of my favourite drinks Caramel Iced Coffee for an additional boost.

If you’re used to completing your chores in the afternoon, try switching it up a bit and completing them in the morning. You might find that you enjoy cleaning in the morning way better than cleaning later on in the day.

If you’re the type of person who loves being outdoors all the time, try staying home for the day and see how you enjoy it.

It doesn’t matter what you do differently in your routine, as long as it’s a change. It doesn’t matter how small or how big of a change you make, as long as it’s a change. You wouldn’t know that you enjoy something until you try so why not?

You’re bound to discover new things about yourself and new things that you love.

You won’t ever know that you enjoy something, until you try. Life begins at the end of your comfort zone so what are you going to change about routine?

Book Review: The Couple Next Door

When I saw this novel available at my local library, I had to pick it up.

Shari Lapena, author of the Couple Next Door worked as a lawyer and as an English teacher before turning to writing.  It’s a good thing she started writing because “The Couple Next Door” is astounding.

“The Couple Next Door” is a mystery thriller.  The story revolves around a mother struggling with postpartum depression after having her first child with her husband.  When the couple is invited to their neighbours dinner party, they leave the baby home due to the baby sitter cancelling last minute.  Also, the couple next door requested the baby not to be there because they couldn’t stand her crying. Following the dinner party, the couple comes home to an empty crib. Who is to blame for their missing baby? Was it their fault? Was it the neighbours? The amount of secrets that are exposed on the journey to finding the baby is just astounding.

There is so much action, suspense, and thrilling events that occcur in 300 pages it’s a must read.

This novel is thrilling until the very last page. I hope Shari Lapena writes a sequel to “The Couple Next Door” because I would love to know how the story ends. This is by far the most addictive book I’ve ever read. I read the entire novel in a day and would recommend this novel to anyone who enjoys thrillers.

After finishing the novel I sat there just thinking about it.  I’ve never been so impacted by a novel. Overall, it was an amazing read and I would recommend to anyone who hasn’t read it yet.

DIY: Inspiration Board

My first year of University was one of the hardest years for me. I was convinced mid-way through I was going to get kicked out my program because of how difficult it was. I was so grateful at the end of first year when I had made it through final exams.  After my experience first year, I wanted to make something to motivate me during difficult times for my second year at university.

One thing that really helped me first year was reading  quotes, so I decided to create my own inspiration board with all the quotes that inspired me to keep going.

This DIY consists of three things:

  1. A board of your choice

I chose a cork board because I wanted a board that I’d be able to reuse it again and change the pictures on it.

When you have your cork board, all you have to do is lay it on a flat surface such as the floor, or a desk.

2.Pictures or quotes

If you guys don’t want to use quotes, you can also use pictures. The quotes I used on my board were off of google that I saved onto my phone. Once they were on my phone, I took them to to Walmart to get printed.

With your pictures you’re going to lay them out on top of the cork board in the position that you want them to be in. This is the best part because you can choose to create your board into a collage, or put your pictures side by side. The ways in which you can arrange your pictures are endless!

If you guys want an idea of what quotes I used, here are some of my favourites:tumblr_mdvnkl1PEP1rlzcq5o1_500.jpg

3.A hot glue gun or push pins

I got these push pins at my local dollar store. I love how well the white tied in with the board. I think it added a really nice touch to the final look.

Once you have your push pins or glue gun all you have do is stick your pictures to the board.

Here’s what mine looked like after following those three steps, and I absolutely loved how mine turned out. I keep my inspiration board on my desk where I complete homework because that’s the place where I find I need the most inspiration. It always helps me finish  my homework reading quotes off of my board.

I hope you guys enjoyed this DIY, thanks for reading!!
